BIRTHDAY RAMBLINGS -Vietnam, tea parties and healthcare protestors

Reflecting on another birthday. With a glass of Glenlivet.

They say you are only young once. They were right. But if you lived your life like me you are forever young. Or as my wife points out “you have been immature all of your life and you will never change.” She is so right.

In Vietnam I lived everyday as if it were my last, full well knowing that it could be.

In college, I was more comfortable holding a glass of scotch than a book. I loathed the university life and I detested the “anti-war” scum that were pervasive on campus. Note: If the tea party and town hall protesters today are “un-American “ according to Congresswoman Pelosi in her USA Today OP/ED piece, or Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's statement that the town hall protesters are “evil mongers” What the hell were the anti-war protestors in 1970? The ones that burned a Marine Corps classroom at Harvard and later they set fire to the ROTCBuilding. Or how about the hundreds of ant-war protesters that stormed the Air Force ROTC office in Buffalo, burning their books and files. Or the protestors that stood in front of the ROTCBuilding in Buffalo yelling “Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh, the NLF is gonna win”, while burning a US flag. In 1970 anti-war protestors burned offices and destroyed property and threatened ROTC students at Maryland, Buffalo, and UC Berkeley. Harvard, Ohio State, Michigan State, Washington, Yale, Wisconsin, Kent State to name a few. There was a recruiter killed in Oakland. A student died at Kent State. The Weather Underground led by President Obama’s ‘acquaintance’ Bill Ayers who said they should have done more (even after his girlfriend was killed by a bomb they were making). Ayers is an arrogant punk and has no balls. Ayers is a coward. He could only operate from the dark and let his women take more risks and die in his place (what an a.s.s....). There are many Vietnam-era Veterans stationed at Fort Dix in 1970 that travel to Dwight Illinois just to p.i.s.s.... on a grave. (Sorry-I didn't mean to offend, I'm just an old grunt. You should have heard the language I used when I got back from Nam).

Well, maybe some tea-party people or anti-healthcare reform protestors will show up at that commie Ayer’s office at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Well I may be immature by some standards. But, then again, I lived way beyond my own expectations.
As the T-shirt that my kids bought me says "Not as lean, not as mean, but still a Marine."
Damn, only 4PM and out of Glenlivet. I better stop writing and start celebrating. Good thing my next birthday is only a few months away. November 10.

Barack Means SPINELESS.

Barack Obama at a recent event joking said his name meant "That One," referring to one of the debates. But, I think it probably means "The Spineless One."

Do we want a President that has no backbone, that has shown he is spineless?

For 20 years Obama sat in Rev. Wright’s church and Barack Obama did not have the backbone to stand up and leave. Did not have the backbone to say that “we should be saying “God Bless America” - - not “God Damn America.”

Barack “The Spineless” Obama did not stand up to Bill Ayers and say “You are a terrorist” and “I do not want to work with you, or have my political career started in your living room or write a piece for your book.”

Barack “The Spineless” Obama does not stand up to Acorn and say “Clean up your act. I will not pay your organization for fraud.”

Barrack “The Spineless” Obama refuses to stand up to his party and demand that every military absentee ballot be counted. He wants to be Commander-In-Chief, but throws out the ballots of our brave men and women serving overseas because that’s what the Democratic Party wants in Virginia and in other states.

Barack "the Spineless" refuses to take hard questions from the media and cancels interviews when they do.

Barack “The Spineless” Obama did not have the backbone to hold town hall meetings with Senator McCain.

Barack “The Spineless” Obama does not have the backbone to admit that the surge in Iraq was a success.

How can we expect Barrack “The Spineless” Obama to stand up to ultra liberals Pelosi and Reid who have lower approval ratings than President Bush?

How can we expect Barack “The Spineless” Obama to stand up to brutal dictators such as North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il or Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad?

We need someone who has shown that he has backbone, that is willing to take on his own party, that showed courage under fire, and that always puts his country first, We need Senator McCain.

Governor Palin Was ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT !!!

A BRILLIANT performance last night at the debate. Governor Sarah Palin was awesome.

She talked to the American people in words that they understand, relate to and above all she talked from the heart. In reality it was not a debate. She answered her questions with what she wanted to say, not what the questions seemed to imply. There were no Palin gaffes, but there were plenty of Biden mistakes if not outright lies.  Biden is a gifted veteran who was an adversary of Obama during the primaries and now Sarah Palin threw his words back into his face that must have felt like a cold shower in the outdoors of the North Slope in Alaska.

Who won the debate—no question. It was Governor Palin by a wide margin. When she was introduced in Dayton there were comments such as “a rising star” and “future hopefull”. No she isn’t a rising star, she is our shining star. She isn’t a future hopeful, she is our “hopeful future.”

In the debate Governor Palin attacked the Biden/Obama ticket with a smile and with humor that resonated well with everyone that I watched with last night. Her “”I’m no Washington insider” comment was reinforced by her down to earth every day language and common sense. But the  line of the night had to be “Say it ain’t so Joe, there you go again.” It showed she was willing and able to take it to the Biden/Obama ticket. She called them out and derided them on their “white flag of surrender” policy on the war in Iraq.

Sarah Palin was gutsy. Sarah Palin showed us the solid conservative values that she espouses and her openness of her love of God and country -- and of course her family.

Sarah Palin proved last night that she would make a great vice president, but even more so, that she could step in and be a great president if the need should arise. John McCain and Sarah Palin are ready to lead from day one. They both put “COUNTRY FIRST.”

With only 31 days to go, to win this November, the Sarah Palin that we saw last night has to be unleashed and be center stage. Let the chants begin -- “Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah…”

The great depression returns?

There is an economic crisis ! ! We have been told that every day for the past week.  And the problem needs to be solved ! ! We have been told that it needs to be fixed now, today, every day for the past week. But, before everyone panics --seems that congress already has -- lets put it into perspective. In the past 12 months the stock market fell about 25%. In 1929 the market dropped 40% in less than two months.

According to the most recent report of the Bureau of Labor Statistics unemployment stands at 6.!%. In 1933 it unemployment rose to 25%.

The most recent report for GDP is that it has increased by 2.8% in 2008 and is expected to continue to grow at a 2.52% rate in 2009. GDP in the 1930’s plunged by 25%.

The last report on home prices in the US showed that they fell by 16% in 2008. In the 1930’s they fell over 30%. The report on delinquent mortgages for 2008 shows that they are at 4%. In 1934 delinquent mortgages rose to 40%.

In 2008 there have been less than 20 banks that have failed and there are 90 banks on the FDIC watch list. In the 1930’s over 9,000 banks failed.

Is there a financial crisis? Yes there is. Is it another great depression? No. But if Congress continues to promote it as another great depression, it may become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

William F. Buckley Jr., RIP -- Conservatives Grieve

William F. Buckley Jr. was the man who gave me the desire and inspiration to be a writer and editor. He introduced me to Conservatism while I was in high school and I became a Goldwater Conservative.
The National Review became my Bible and I read it religiously until I left for Vietnam. When I returned from Vietnam I was neither a conservative nor a liberal. I was numb. I watched the media coverage and the anti-war protests and became angry and bitter. Then I found the National Review again. I became inspired and renewed. I finished my degree in Journalism and started again on the path of Conservatism. I met Ronald Reagan and became a Reagan Conservative and I have tried to live and support a Conservative philosophy ever since that day. But it all began with Mr. Buckley. And today, we all mourn the loss of the William F. Buckley Jr.
They were the Trinity of Conservatism--Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan and William F. Buckley, Jr.
All conservatives grieve.

Bill Cunningham -- The Real RINO of the GOP

Willie Cunningham is about as distasteful and vile a radio talk show host that is around. I personally am about as far to the right as you can get on issues of fiscal policy (cut taxes and cut spending and simplify the tax code), homeland security and a strong military defense (support our troops, fight to win -- not retreat and surrender, improve VA benefits), immigration (build the fence, no amnesty, mandatory punishment for hiring illegal aliens), etc.

Billie Cunningham says a lot of these things, but in a way that is "Greatly UnAmerican" and in voice that makes nails on a blackboard sound pleasant. I was at the McCain rally and almost stood and booed when he used Ann Coulter's name (who wants our fellow Marines and servicemen to salute Hillary Clinton), but I had to be restrained. I didn't find Bill Cunningham particularly humorous, but that is Bill Cunningham. He bellows more than he speaks. He Rants. He Raves.

I find his use of the phrase "You're a Great American," to be offensive. Great Americans were Chesty Puller. Great Americans were John Basilone. Great Americans were John Lejeune. Great Americans would never say support Hillary Clinton instead of John McCain. When Bill Cunningham says you are a "Great American" he may as well as say "who cut the cheese," because it is about as trivial meaning and smells just the same.

As far as I am concerned Bill Cunningham has made himself "persona non grata" at any GOP event. Any candidate that invites Bill Cunningham should lose the support of good Republicans and hard core conservatives, that are tired of the "If you are not as conservative as I think I am,  than I'll take my ball and go home -- or I'll support Hillary Clinton,” rhetoric that Bill Cunningham and Ann Coulter have espoused. What I found as offensive was Bill Cunningham's remarks on Sean Hannity's show. Bill Cunningham needs to apologize to all of the servicemen and women that he wants to salute Hillary Clinton rather than John McCain, I hope he does not show up at any "Support Our Troops" rallies, because he and Ann Coulter will get the “one finger salute.”

When I went to Vietnam there was the Tet Offensive taking place and John McCain was already a prisoner of war. When I came home 16 months later, John McCain was still a prisoner of war. While we were there, Bill Cunningham was running around Cincinnati bellowing "I'm a basketball player, I'm a basketball player," while his friends were protesting the war, smoking pot calling us that were serving in Vietnam "Baby killers." The real TET offensive was when we came home from Vietnam. I lost friends in Vietnam. But when I came home, for a long time I lost hope. I was called a baby killer from the pulpit of my church. I had to pass protestors on campus daily when I went to college on the GI Bill. I had to listen to John Kerry and others tell lies about atrocities that were never committed. I never want our servicemen and women to face that again. How is Bill Cunningham supporting our troops? By Voting for Hillary? That’s what Billie Cunningham suggested on Sean Hannity's show. Like I said, Bill Cunningham is not a true conservative. He is talking airhead on WLW, nothing more, nothing less

I have always been a conservative. I supported Barry Goldwater. I was a Reagan Delegate. I am beginning to believe that RINOs are not liberal Republicans, but are the so called Conservatives who would rather support Hillary Clinton than John McCain. A real RINO is Bill Cunningham. A real RINO is Ann Coulter.

ROMNEY AT CPAC - Brilliant Speech

Mitt Romney gave what can only be considered as his greatest speech since entering the race for President of the United States. Not only did he sound like a great statesman, he won the minds and hearts of lot of Conservatives as well as any Republican who treasures this great Republic.

In the speech Romney said:

"I disagree with Senator McCain on a number of issues, as you know, but I agree with him on doing whatever it takes to be successful in Iraq and finding and executing Osama Bin Laden; and I agree with him on eliminating Al-Qaeda and terror worldwide. If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror.

This is not an easy decision for me. I hate to lose. My family, my friends and our supporters...  many of you right here in this room... have given a great deal to get me where I have a shot at becoming President. If this were only about me, I would go on.  But I entered this race because I love America, and because I love America, I feel I must now stand aside, for our party and for our country."

He spoke with passion and great conviction. If John McCain chooses Mitt Romney for a running mate, many Conservatives will be pleased. I do not believe that will happen, but I do believe that Mitt Romney will back and today he may have become the early GOP leader for 2012 or 2016.

The one thing about CPAC attendees is that many are not really Republicans. They just show up at Republican events because no one is running on the Conservative Ticket. And they will never understand that patriotism is not about just being a conservative. Patriotism is what Mitt Romney did, put his country above his own ambitions, his own ego and his own beliefs. There are some Conservatives that will continue to say they will never vote for McCain. I wish that some of those, like Ann Coulter would just go away. At one time I found her refreshing, witty, but always abrasive. Now I just feel she is tiring and has become the Conservative version of Rosie O'Donnell. The View cut Rosie loose, Maybe FOX should cut Coulter loose.

OPEN LETTER TO HANNITY, RUSH, MARK “The great one”, COULTER AND MALKIN ET AL…

If Ronald Reagan was running for president today and the Soviet Union was still a threat, the Conservative talk show commentators of Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh , Mark Levin, Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin to name a few , would be happy to have the Soviet Union continue, the words “Tear down this wall Mr. Gorbachev” would never be uttered and the Shining City on the Hill be nothing more than the dream of a liberal actor who wanted to put Sandra Day O’Connor on the Supreme Court bench, wanted to send US troops into the Mid East as part of Multinational Force and of course wanted to really grant amnesty to illegal aliens without building a fence.
Hannity, Limbaugh, Levin, Coulter, Malkin et al would be beating their chests (in the case of Limbaugh, Coulter and Malkin, beat their breasts--sorry Rush, looks like you put on few pounds) and vilifying Ronald “the liberal” Reagan. The
Soviet Union would still have millions of people in countries such as Poland, the Ukraine, Slovakia, etc. under their thumb and nuclear missiles would still be trained on the US with no hope of ending the cold war.

Thank God, that in 1980 Hannity was only graduating from high school and at best would be busy as either a bartender or construction worker for the next few years and wouldn’t know how to spell conservative until several years later.  At this time in my life I had already been a supporter of Goldwater. A few years later I would return home from Vietnam after serving 16 months there with the Marines. (I didn’t see Hannity, Rush, Levin, Coulter or Malkin there). I think Rush may have been playing some hard rock music as a DJ or maybe was saying how great them Royals were in KC. Of course if Reagan had not taken on the Fairness Doctrine – Rush Limbaugh never would be a radio conservative and in 1988 I might not have become a Rush Limbaugh listener and eventually a Ditto button wearer. (I think I still have one that I wore at some Republican Convention. It has a red light that blinks).

I am especially saddened by the Mark Levin comments. In the early 80s Mark worked with Ed Meese and others in the Reagan cabinet. What was your position on Ronald Reagan’s nomination of Sandra Day O’Connor, Mark? Did you quit and leave in disgust or did you support her nomination? Mark what was your position on President Reagan and his signing of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, which legalized 2.8 million undocumented workers? Did you quit in disgust then Mark? Did you leave the Republican Party? Did you support President Reagan’s bailout of Social Security, and his taxing of Social Security benefits? Did you agree when President Reagan signed off on a tax increase on gasoline in 1983?

And where were you Ann and Michelle? Oh yeah, Michelle you were only about 10 years old at the time and the nuns at Holy Spirit haven’t even tried to cure you of your name-calling with that filthy word "liberal". Ann, I think you may have been busy pledging the Delta Gammas at that time. You were to become my favorite political columnist/writer, but Patricia Heaton has always been my favorite Delta Gamma.

In 1980 I was working my butt off for Reagan's nomination and later his election. I was a Reagan volunteer, and State Delegate. I will never forget when he picked up my youngest daughter who was 5 years old at the time (she was excited about meeting Ronald Reagan, but later when we were driving home she said rather disappointedly that he didn’t look like Ronald McDonald and I had to explain to my daughter that this man was going to be the leader of the free world and that great things were going to happen because of him). I made thousands of phone calls in 1980 for fundraising and for getting out the vote, I went door to door in various neighborhoods, handed out literature at the polls, put up signs, got up at 5 am on Election Day and put door knocker voting reminders on doors before going to various polls to hand out sample ballots.

What did you do to help Reagan get elected in 1980 Sean? Rush? Ann? Michelle? I won’t ask you Mark.  I was part of the grassroots efforts, a Conservative in the Goldwater libertarian mold, but reaching out and calling on all Republicans, as well as Independents and even moderate Democrats.

Where were you Sean, Rush Mark, Ann, Michelle in the 80 and 90’s?

I think it was in 2001 Hannity started to claim he was a conservative. I appreciate all you are doing for the troops Sean, I appreciate your conservative support, but you are wrong in vilifying John McCain. I was there in the 1980s and 1990s and I appreciate John McCain and his pro-life support. We held rallies at churches and on the steps of government offices. We stood in front of Target Stores protesting Dayton Hudson Foundation giving millions to Planned Parenthood. We handed out thousands of red flowers at churches in memory of the unborn, we helped those committed to pro-life by helping young women who decided to have their babies by finding clothes, toys, blankets, furniture, etc. to help reduce their financial load.

Michelle, your eloquent articulation of conservatism is extraordinary. I wish that I was as capable as you in my support of conservatism. But your hate speeh toward McCain makes you sound and look like a KOS Blogger.
In the 1990’s I was told by political acquaintances that I was to the far right of Rush Limbaugh. I took that as a real complement. I believe I am an economic conservative. Cut taxes, Cut spending. Foreign policy conservative—defeat communism, defeat radical Islam. And a true social conservative—pro-life, pro-family. These are the ideals I saw in Ronald Reagan. I fought for him, I fought for these issues. Why do I support John McCain? Because I am a true conservative who sees in John McCain a true foreign policy conservative.  He stood with Reagan to defeat communism and he stands today to defeat radical Islam. He is true social conservative with a great history of pro-life and pro family support.  He is true economic conservative – cut taxes, cut spending. Do away with earmarks.

On the issues about McCain-Feingold I totally disagree with John McCain. But McCain- Feingold will never cost one American life and we can move on and make changes. McCain-Lieberman, I also disagree with him, but McCain-Lieberman will never cost one American life. McCain-Kennedy I also disagree with. Waterboarding is another issue that I also disagree with the Senator on. But I was not a POW and I was never tortured. I will defer to the Senator’s position if he has to weigh the lives of Americans at home against the possible torture and possible death of American servicemen and women in the future.

In Vietnam, good men died, sometimes because of bad political policies and decisions. When President Reagan sent troops to Lebanon, good Marines died. I love Ronald Reagan, but that time he was wrong and I believe he made a grave error. In Iraq and Afghanistan, brave men and women have died and are still dying. Some of those deaths happened because of bad policy and bad decisions. Some of those bad decisions and policies were fought by John McCain. I trust Senator McCain as our Commander In Chief. I have talked with some servicemen that have served in Iraq and Afghanistan and their consensus is that Senator McCain would be a great choice for Commander in Chief. Of course if the Democrats have their way, their absentee ballots might not be counted, so they might not even have a vote. And if Ann Coulter has her way these same brave men and women will have to salute Hillary Clinton.

This is the single issue that should control a true conservative’s vote at this time in history. With economics, there may be people suffering with a mortgage problem. But no one dies. The economic condition may worsen and some may lose jobs, but they do not lose there lives. I want a president that I can entrust with the lives of our young men and women serving. I ask you Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin et al, will your bitterness toward Senator McCain, your actual calling for conservatives to stay home, lead to a victory by democrats. Do you really believe that either of the Democrats would do a better job of protecting this country? Or is your philosophy ‘Lets make a conservative political point and if someone has to die that’s all right.” Can you live with that? Ann, can you really ask that our good military people to salute a Hillary Clinton.

But now is the time for all Republicans to rally around the candidates who are left. I would have support Mitt Romney if he won the nomination and I would have worked hard to get him elected.

All I ask of you Hannity, Rush, Mark, Ann and Michelle et al, is to support Senator McCain if he is nominated and I believe that he will be. I ask you to support him not simply because he is a Republican, but because of the true conservative litmus test of economics, foreign policy and social policy issues. And he is a true conservative on the issues that matter most, those that can mean the life and death of American Citizens.

Why am I writing this to you Hannity, Rush, Mark, Ann and Michelle? Because over the years I have listened and agreed with you on most issues. I respect you. I enjoy your commentary. I have been a fan. I even have Sean on my speed dial. But your character assassination of John McCain is unwarranted. When it comes to partisanship, I am about as partisan as one can be. I believe that it is good be partisan. But if your rhetoric should cause the defeat of Senator McCain against a Hillary or Obama, you will have done a true disservice to this country.

I don’t think that Conservatives should blindly fall into lockstep, but I do ask that you do what is truly best for this country. I didn’t always agree with Ronald Reagan, but I truly believe that Ronald Reagan is the greatest of all US presidents.  He was a man I admired and trusted. I do not agree with John McCain on lot of issues, but I do believe that he is the best person to lead this country at this point in time. He is also a man I admire and trust. There may be other greater conservatives who could run this country. But first they have to have the courage to run. The courage to have their lives scrutinized and be under a microscope, to have every word they uttered since the first grade be examined and interpreted, to have every word they have written be read, re-read and then questioned in inane interviews  by media that want to find your Achilles heel and bring you down. They have to be electable. Republicans have to be especially prepared. After all, Republicans eat their own. Your sharp tongues cutting away at their outer layers until the soft underbelly is exposed and gobbled up by the pundits, bloggers, pollsters and then thrown out to the liberal media for the finish.  All because they just may not be as conservative as Hannity, Rush, Mark, Ann and Malkin think they should be. It seems today that the most dangerous weapon we have to face is the microphone of a conservative talk show host, who would rather posture and pander for ratings than do what is truly best for this country.

God bless the United States of America and save us from the perils of liberalism and the arrogance of “I am more conservative than you” rhetoric. And finally I ask… What did anyone of you do to encourage and bring forth another great conservative leader to be willing to run and serve as President of these United States?

Have the great conservatives become great cowards. Let’s put out an all points bulletin: NEEDED --  ONE REAL CONSERVATIVE TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT. PLEASE!!!!  Come on Michelle Malkin. Go and find us a conservative candidate that we can rally around. Beg that person to run. If there is a man that you think would be great conservative, go grab him and tell him to grow some balls because the Conservatives need him. If its a woman, tell her to shave her legs and wax her mustache, the Conservatives need her. And above all, get out that litmus paper and have them all pee on it to make sure that the color turns conservative enough for you. And Ann, I hope that McCain does get the nomination, I really want to hear you support Hillary Clinton. I bet when you played as a little girl and when you didn't get your way, you took your ball and went home. Well, Ann, get your balls and go home. And Sean, when you have another Support the Troops event, please don’t invite Ann Coulter. We don’t want or need her kind of support. If she is there I promise I will organize a protest complete with Ann Coulter mock lynchings and have her inducted into the Jane Fonda Hall of Shame. This is just a lot of a RANTS from a Grunt.
